Help us Help you

Here at Root Art Center we love sending out postcards about our upcoming classes, gallery shows, and events. We also realize that some of you love getting that postcard every month. With the rising cost of virtually everything these days we are, like everyone else, trying to cut some costs. The easiest way we have found so far to reduce these costs is to disperse information about our Art Center through email as much as possible from now on. If you wish to help us in this endeavor please sign up for our email newsletters on the right hand side of our web page or email us and let us know that you would like to receive email information from now on. If you still want to get the beautiful postcards from us we understand.

October 2008 Show

Oct 6th, 2008 | By Andy | Category: Gallery

Columbus artists Brandy Wolfe and Jill Gallestein collaborate in an installation based project, Loop, featured at Root Art Gallery for the month of Oct. with an artist reception Fri., Oct. 3rd from 6-9pm. Using handmade fabric animals, they explore and challenge the ideas of preservation, memory, evolution, beauty, and nostalgia.

Change is something society tries to move towards, but also turns to run from. Wolfe and Gallenstein use their work to examine this relationship and ask questions about it. Loop is a dialog between the artists, the viewer, and the society that shapes each.

Wolfe places familiar objects and images in strange and new situations. This is meant to bring forth memories these objects hold for the viewer and urge the viewer to see these objects in a new light. Gallenstein’s work looks at the passage of time through the process of growth and evolution. Familiar objects and images are repeated, showing the variations of each individual object and the movement from one adaptation to the next.

Brandy Wolfe was born in San Antonio, TX. She received her BFA in painting from the Maryland Institute College of Art in 2001 and her MA in art history from Ohio State University in 2005. Over the past few years, her work has been included in many exhibitions in Columbus, OH, as well as nationally. Wolfe will be moving to Boston, MA in the near future.

Jill Gallenstein is a multimedia artist from Columbus, OH whose most recent bodies of work include drawings and sculpture. She received her MFA from New York University in 2003, and her BFA from The Columbus College of Art and Design in 1999. In the past few years, Gallenstein has been featured in numerous galleries and been chosen for artist residencies all over the country.

Brandy Wolfe and Jill Gallenstein will be present at an opening reception Fri., Oct. 3rd from 6-9pm at Root Art Center, 212 S. Main St. in downtown Mount Vernon. Loop will be on display from Oct. 3rd through the 26th
