Press Release

Three young artists will be featured at Root Art Gallery for the month of April with an artist reception Fri., April 3rd from 6-9pm. Henry Brown, Keyaira Daniel, and Stefan Gunn each explore different perspectives of the world around them through their art. Colors, textures, and shapes flesh out these perceptions and bring them to life.

Brown’s charcoal drawings hold a quiet, restful simplicity. Large dark figures, along with little other information, are used to influence the viewer to think about the circumstances surrounding the person portrayed.

Daniel takes from her background in movie effects to create her dark, textural paintings. She uses latex and wire over canvas to create depth and mystery, layering colors and textures.

Gunn uses his work to break down how he experiences the activities that go on around him. The paintings use repetitive markings to make up the larger image, breaking the image apart before putting back together.

All three artists have ties to Knox County. Brown and Gunn both graduated from Kenyon College in 2007 with degrees in studio art. They both now live and work in New Haven, CT. Daniel attended Tom Savini’s Makeup and Fx School. She currently lives in Mount Vernon, OH.
